Vintage Graflex Crown Graphic 4x5 press camera fitted with a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 135mm f/4.7 lens mounted in a Compur shutter. This classic setup is known for large format photography.
The exposure on this Graflex Crown Graphic camera is controlled through the Synchro-Compur leaf shutter integrated into the lens assembly. Because this is a large format camera, exposure settings—shutter speed and aperture—must be set manually on the lens itself before each shot.
Exposure Controls
- Shutter Speed: Located on the outer rim of the lens, with a range of speeds typically including 1, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, and 1/500 of a second, plus "B" (Bulb) and "T" (Time) settings.
- Aperture (f-stop): Controlled by a lever or scale on the bottom or side of the shutter housing. The Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 135mm lens shown has a maximum aperture of f/4.7.
- Shutter Cocking: Before taking a photo, you must manually cock the shutter using the lever on the side of the lens barrel.
